BRAINSTRONG 2018 Grant Information
BrainStrong, a 5K race raising awareness on the impact of concussions in youth sports, is funding grants applicable to this goal. BrainStrong is supported by the Brain Injury Association of Delaware.
The grant funds must be used for education or creating a safer playing environment for youth with an emphasis in youth athletics. Past grant funds have been used for programs such as concussion research, gym padding, coach’s education opportunities relating to concussion in sports, and guest speaker costs. The purpose of this grant is not to replace normal fundraising of non profit programs, but provide additional money for concussion prevention, education, and research.
In 2016, Governor Markell signed into law additional changes to the original concussion legislation in Delaware, this grant can help ensure organizations are meeting the new legislation standards. The legislation can be viewed here: http://legis.delaware.gov/BillDetail?LegislationId=23879.
With proceeds from the 2017 BrainStrong race, there is up to $8,000 in funds to support grants for non-profit organizations that encourage concussion prevention and education with individual grants will be a maximum of $1,000. Grant applications will be reviewed by the BrainStrong Team.
